NBR & SANS
The National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act commenced in 1985 and prescribe country wide building standards and a uniform law regulating the erection of buildings in the areas of jurisdiction of local authorities.
The act relies on national standards published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) that provide a code of practice for the application of the NBR. This is know as the SANS 10400 specifications and establishes general requirements for satisfying the National Building Regulations issued in terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act.
