Compliance with Regulations
Any new building and any alteration that adds on to or changes the structure of an existing building must have plans submitted to the local authority for approval.

SACAP
No new home build or changes to an existing structure, will be approved by the local authority unless complete detailed building plans have been submitted for approval by a registered professional with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP).
SACAP is the regulator of the architectural profession, protecting the public on services received from it’s registered members.
NBR & SANS
The National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act commenced in 1985 and prescribe country wide building standards and a uniform law regulating the erection of buildings in the areas of jurisdiction of local authorities.
The act relies on national standards published by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) that provide a code of practice for the application of the NBR. This is know as the SANS 10400 specifications and establishes general requirements for satisfying the National Building Regulations issued in terms of the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act.
Design Matters
Good design is a critical component in architecture

- Never underestimate the importance of visual composition.
- Structural design has to be visually appealing – the placement of a window at a specific height can create balance on a facade.
It is beautiful

- Ease of use, comfort, practicality – these are central to a well-functioning space. A structure does not have to be unnecessary complex for it to work
- Innovation is a fundamental aspect of good design when it is built within a framework of practicality.
It is functional

- Building a holiday or family home, you would like your investment to appreciate in value.
- Over time, even the best design needs care and attention, but inferior or cheaply built structures rife with design flaws tend to need much more maintenance.
It is sustainable
